Drawing inspiration from the hand skilled craftsmanship of weavers in Nepal, the fabulous natural fibers, and the vibrant colors seen throughout the country during their frequent visits to Nepal, Michelle Baldwin and Michelle Taylor-Spearman of TDM Design launched their NEPALI accessories line in 2007. NEPALI by TDM Design creates luxurious, exquisite, yet fun scarves, shawls and Masino silk scarves that are all hand-made in Nepal using the highest quality fibers.
They work directly with predominantly women cottage industries in Nepal, empowering them, their families and their communities. By supporting women weavers and women craftsmanship, they provide sustainable income to Nepalese women and helps weavers and their families break the cycle of poverty by providing them above-market compensation and access to education and health care. The power duo (Michelle and Michelle) believe that income generation opportunities and support for social values enhance and reinforce each other. TDM strives to strengthen the role of women in today’s Nepal and educate their children as the country moves forward. As such, TDM is investing in the future by putting the weavers’ children through school as well as funding essential healthcare services.
NEPALI by TDM Design accessories are made from natural materials such as silk, cashmere, bamboo, modal and wool and eco-friendly azo-free dyes. They are eco-conscious, socially responsible and stylish at the same time. The line’s scarves are sold in over 600 stores and boutiques throughout the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
We received the Scrunchy Cashmere Scarf in Teal from the line’s Cashmere Scarf Collection. It measures approximately 12” x 33”, is 100% cashmere, and retails for $85. This is the third piece we have reviewed from NEPALI by TDM Design.
As with the others, this piece is absolutely gorgeous! It’s luxurious, elegant, and worth every penny. Apart from the sheer fashion value of this scarf, what I love about it is that it stays in place!
At first look, I wasn’t sure about the scrunchy nature of the scarf but as soon as I tried it on, I totally got it. Now I wish all my scarves had this type of hold so I’m not constantly re-adjusting. It doesn’t slide, it stays put, and moves right along with me but it’s not stiff in any way. What a concept – a scarf that stays exactly where you want it to! Everyone should have one of these, seriously. As for me, it has quickly become a fave piece and it just keeps on racking up points with each compliment I receive whenever I don it.
A fab way to wear this scarf is with a super sleek leather jacket like this Chevron Tier Leather Scuba Jacket from KORS by Michael Kors paired with an edgy pair of skinny jeans like this back-zip version from Current/Elliott.
What else can I say? How about a plea to the designers to create this scrunchy style in a shawl? It’ll be totally to die for! I’m so sure I will not be alone in coveting one of these. Until then, covet one of these. You will absolutely adore it so treat yourself, you sooo deserve it.
