Yellow Flower Earrings and Ankh Necklace by MINU Jewels

minujewels

Bringing the influence of her heritage and culture into each piece of jewelry, Egyptian-born designer Mina Hassan is creating a style of jewelry that is reflective of the past, fused with a contemporary flare.  Her interest in design, art, painting, and travel also inspire her handmade creations.

Raised in Raleigh, Mina attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she has settled.  With the help of her mother Mimi Moghazi and sister Sherine Osman, what started as a hobby in their family home propelled into a thriving business with the launch of the line, MINU Jewels (pronounced my-new).

Their style is eclectic and unique, timeless pieces that know no seasons nor follow trends.  Sold in upscale stores and boutiques nationwide and online, MINU Jewels is also available in Europe and in the Middle East.

In addition to Good Housekeeping, La’G, and bRILLIANT magazines, MINU’s bracelets were also featured and went to some of the most prominent stars in Hollywood when they were included in gift bags for the non-winning nominees of the 79th Academy Awards in 2007.

It is no wonder one of MINU’s creations were selected for the Oscar gift bags, they are absolutely gorgeous!  We received the Yellow Flower Earrings and the Ankh Necklace.  The earrings are made with lemon jade, peridot and green patina pearls, dangling from 14k gold-filled French wires.  The pair retails for $68.  The necklace features a large teardrop turquoise with a silver ankh, flower, and amber charms on a 27” hand-knotted natural leather string.  It is also available in black leather and retails for $87.

The earring is so perfect for summer.  The color is yummy, a bright yellow with a sprinkling of green from the peridot and the pearls.  This piece has taken a total hold of my wardrobe.  I want to wear it with everything!  Rather than match accessories to my outfit, I now look for ‘fits that match this pair of earrings.  It goes from casual to glam, day to night in no time flat.  It just depends on what you wear with it.  For an effortless look, I pair it up with a colorful, ruffle neck dress – total knockout chic.  For a glammed up look, I match it up with an elegant little white dress like this tiered number by Robert Rodriguez.  Of course, you can’t go wrong wearing this piece with jeans, shorts, or the classic suit spiced up by this yellow number for a modish professional look.

The necklace is my jewel of the Nile.  The ankh is what makes this piece.  Known as the key of life, the ankh is the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that reads eternal life.  Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest.  I prefer to carry it around my neck and sport it around with my favorite ruffle trim tank.  I love this piece.  As simple as all the elements are, they make an impact put all together and a striking and fabulous one at that.  Solid colors are best to wear with this piece so that the turquoise becomes the focus and the centerpiece of the outfit.  It registers high on the adoration meter and who wouldn’t want that?

So if you want to have your own jewel of the Nile, check out MINU’s Jewels.  It’ll bring out the Mediterranean in you.
