Cello Pin, Lightening Earrings, Garden in White Bracelet by dolma

While spending the fall of 2005 studying Mandarin at a Chinese University, Ashley Logsdon met a friend named An Jin.  Inseparable, they traveled China from Shanghai to Lhasa where a devout Tibetan Buddhist monk gave Ashley the name “Samkidolma” which translates to Tibetan Goddess of Foresight.

Throughout their travels, An Jin would always take Ashley to meet her merchant friends.  Ashley bought many things from the merchants, but it was a few strands of white pearls that she cherished the most.  When she returned home, family and friends admired the pearls she brought back so much that they asked her to go back to China to bring more home.

Answering this appeal, Ashley’s pearl jewelry company was born.  Named after her shortened Tibetan name dolma, the company specializes in freshwater pearl jewelry imports.  Although a few select boutiques carry their products, dolma jewelry is primarily a network marketing company that offers contemporary and classic freshwater pearl jewelry to clients through home shows.  Women were lining up to host pearl parties and grabbing jewelry by the handfuls for gifts or for themselves, when the company launched two years ago.

As it turns out, Ashley’s Tibetan name (Goddess of Foresight) proved true as she was creating buzz words such as ‘what a deal’ from the beginning, before everyone else did, before words like recessionista came into the picture, and buying at a discount was a fashionable thing to do.

She sells the same pearls that others do, but she goes to China herself, and bargains in Chinese nonetheless!  She hand picks every single pearl, designs the jewelry, oversees the making of it, and then brings them back to the States at prices that everyone can afford.

To Ashley, it’s never been about the price.  It’s the passion, the joy, and the excitement that simple luxuries evoke.  That’s why she’s ahead of the game.  She provided value before price, and did it before it was the hip thing to do.

We received three items from dolma’s pearl collection – the Cello Pin, the Lightening Earrings, and the Garden in White Bracelet.  The pin is a one-of-kind vintage piece and retails for $55.  The earrings is made of gold leaf pearl drops on 14k plated gold hooks.  It retails for $75.  The bracelet is made of hand-braided clumps of sunflower and potato pearls.  It retails for $50.  All pieces arrived packaged in their own floral silk pouch bags.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, and gorgeous!  Let me start off with the bracelet which is super fabulous.  It’s an absolute must have for the spring/summer season.  The clumping of the potato and sunflower pearls is chic and the use of white thread to string them together, very young and hip.  This is a bracelet that will go well with a tailored suit, but be just as cool paired with cut-off shorts.  Prints are all the rage this season and this bracelet is to-die-for when paired up with a floral sheath dress.  Of course, wedding season is just around the corner and this piece would naturally be a great accessory for the bride or anyone else in the bridal party.

The one-of-a-kind pin is simplicity at its best.  In the image, it looks more yellow because of the background.  In person, the pin is matte silver and the pearls, vision in white (same color as the bracelet pearls).  I love pinning it on a long scarf, or on the lapel of a jacket.  My absolute favorite though is adorning a tank top with it, adds such an elegant twist.  Speaking of elegance, try pinning it on a fabric headband – it’s chic defined.

The earring is pretty close to the color projected on the image – goldish pearls with a bit of sheen.  With differing shapes and a metallic look, they’re certainly not your mama’s pearls.  I love the movement the leaves create.  If you’re a bride-to-be, this would be absolutely gorgeous on a tube-top-style ivory gown.  I’ve been there, done that so for me, I see it more as a night-out accessory.  It’s fab when paired with a black ruffle blouse, sooo pretty!

So if you like pearls at affordable prices and who doesn’t, check out dolma.  While you’re there, you may want to check out how you can become a host.  If you love pearls, this would be a great way to get them since hosts receive 10% of sales in pearls – certainly can’t beat that!
