Seven Square Multi-Color Stone Pendant from Ananya Studio
Faye, Teri, and Zainab all have a history of giving back to the community. Faye has been involved in health care and global youth enablement programs for many years. Teri spent over a decade as a therapist for emotionally disturbed pre-schoolers and their families. Zainab has worked with refugees from the long running civil war in Sri Lanka, developmentally challenged children, and community/cottage industry projects in Sri Lanka.
Their experiences sparked an interest in forming a company that brought responsibly-produced, organic and/or fair trade products to the market. It is their hope that by giving artisans and craftspeople from around the world a marketplace for their goods, that they can help them make positive changes for themselves and their families.
Ananya Studio was born from the ideas of these three amazing women who believe that every person can make a difference, improve their life given the opportunity and that every person deserves beauty in their life. Ananya means “matchless” in Sanskit. What a fitting name for the matchless spirit of the women who created purpose not only in their lives but in those they have touched through their work.
Ananya’s goal is to discover and support fair trade and environmentally conscious artisans from around the world. Their first jewelry collection supports women and rural artisan communities in Sri Lanka. Their partner there trains undiscovered artisans, helps fund and build their artisan workshops and pays them a fair price. By paying a fair wage, their partner helps create a profitable and sustainable trade for the communities.
Ananya’s jewelry is available online and in selected retail stores.
We received the Seven Square Multi-Color Stone Pendant with a 16” sterling silver snake chain. It features seven square cut semi- precious stones of peridot, blue topaz, and garnet, dangling from a polished sterling silver tube. It retails for $122. An 18” chain is also available and the pendant can be purchased separately.
The necklace arrived beautifully packaged in a velvet pouch with the stones arranged exactly as pictured. The pendant is gorgeous and quite dainty with each square measuring ¼” in length and 1/8” in width. All together, the squares measure 1 ¼” long and ¾” wide.
The color combination created by the three stones is dazzling. The dark red of the garnet blends exquisitely with the light blue of the topaz and yellow green of the peridot.
The craftsmanship is outstanding. It is well made all around, from the pendant, to the chain, to the clasp. When I wear it, it sits just below my collar bone which showcases the pendant beautifully.
The multi hues and the classic styling allow the necklace to be paired with practically everything in my closet. This piece is definitely going in my ‘seasonless’ pile, my year round jewelry. It’s also versatile, a piece you can wear to the office during the day, to town at night, and to an outing on the weekend. With its classic looks, not only will I wear it year round, I will wear it year, after year, after year.
I’ve paired it with shorts, with jeans, and with a button down for work. It’s like a chameleon, its look changes based on what you wear it with. My hands down favorite though is when I wore it with a dark blue tunic paired with leggings. For a similar look, try it with this blue suede sweater dress by Kenneth Cole Reaction and these leggings from James Perse. The necklace makes this already ultra chic ensemble, really stand out. It truly completes the outfit and gives it a polished look.
As gorgeous as it is, this necklace is but one of many fabulous ones available at Ananya Studio. They’re helping rural artisans make positive changes in their lives so if you buy from them, you’re indirectly supporting the artisans as well. How’s that for shopping and feeling good about it?
