Tamako Salt Water Sound Necklace by Manic Trout

Sierra Bailey was always drawn to jewelry.  When visiting her grandmother as a child, she would always go to her favorite antiques shop where she would get to choose her favorite piece to remember her trip by.

In prep school, Sierra began to collect broken vintage jewelry and recreate pieces that combined her favorite elements along with pieces from new materials that explored the wild color combinations she concocted.

She fell in love with the various elements of vintage jewelry – the look and weight of aged brass and tarnished jewelry, the bright colors and bold statements of resin and lucite, the sparkle of vintage crystals, and the thrill of stumbling across pieces that were like nothing she had seen before.  She just loved knowing she was wearing something that only a few others have.

By the time she was in art school, she was selling her creations in a store near campus and to her friends and dorm mates.

A few years later, she realized she had amassed a huge collection of odds and ends from flea markets, antiques shops, and bead stores.  She had boxes of buttons, brass chains, beads, yarn, Lucite, gemstones, glass, crystals, shells, flowers, and charms.  It was at this time that designing and creating jewelry became more than a hobby for Sierra.

Manic Trout was born and is the result of combining the new and the old, creating a fusion of color and texture that is industrial and beautiful.

When not creating jewelry, Sierra paints original paintings largely abstract expressionistic with oils, watercolor and collage. She tends to delve into her mediums and liberally play with color, creating vibrant and energetic works.  Her handmade jewelry, drawings, oil and watercolor paintings are all available online at manictrout.com.

We received the limited edition Tamako Salt Water Sound Necklace which retails for $120.  Sierra finds solace in aquatics which led to the name of her line, as well as provide inspiration for much of her work.

This one was inspired by Japanese glass fishing balls and the nets they were contained in.  Measuring in at 20”, it features a multitude of glass balls – smoke, clear, ruby red, amethyst and amber – large vintage lucite beads, a vintage brass chain, and a brass spring ring clasp.   This necklace is also available in shades of blue with sapphire, aqua, cobalt, turquoise and green glass beads.

I received the necklace right before I left for New York last weekend.   Packing was made so much easier because I centered my clothes around the necklace.  I didn’t bring any other pieces of jewelry except for an amber colored paid of stud earrings to match the gorgeous colors of the necklace.

Manhattan was absolutely beautiful.  I’ve been there so many times but always when it’s snowing or rather, snowstorming.  This is my first time in the summer time and I just love it!  I heart warm weather and that’s exactly what I got.  Even at night, the temperature didn’t dip down as it does in California.   At 11 pm, I was still walking around without a wrap or any type of cover up.

What’s great about the necklace is that it easily goes from casual to dressy, from daytime to nighttime.  For lunch, I wore it with a tube dress like this one by Soprano and a pair of flat sandals.  At night, I sexified it a bit by wearing it with a pair of straight leg jeans, a tube top like this one by To The Max and high heel sandals.

This piece is so versatile not only with the style of clothes you can wear it with, but also with the seasons you can wear it through.  Even though the tone is more in line with fall, this necklace will definitely not be limited to my fall wardrobe.

I’ll be wearing this one year round and if you want to do the same, best shop for this now because it’s a limited edition.  Then you can feel
