Vickie Handbag by Mitzi Baker
A native of Newport Beach, California, Mitzi Baker began her creative career as part of the Vidal Sassoon Academy’s core art team. At Sassoon, Mitzi was schooled in the “less is more” philosophy as she explored the utilization of geometrical shapes and simplicity, themes that would become the central components of her handbag design ideas. Mitzi began her leather career under Mauricio Orzorio, a fifth-generation master shoemaker, who trained the designer in the art of handcrafted shoe design. When Mitzi extended her leather work into handbags the MITZI BAKER collection was born.
Exquisitely crafted in the finest leathers, the bags are a pleasure to touch and fit the demands of everyday wear by thoughtfully incorporating details such as suede linings, cell phone pockets and detachable shoulder straps.
MITZI BAKER luxury handbags and small leather accessories are sold at over a hundred stores world wide, including Takashimaya, Fred Segal and in stores through out Japan. They have been featured in top fashion magazies such as InStyle, Glamour, Cosmo, Lucky, and Marie Claire.
We received the Vickie Handbag from their Washed Linen collection. The body of the bag is made from washed linen and is trimmed in soft, supple brown leather with a natural color top-stitch. It has a zip top and a single braided leather shoulder strap with a 9” drop. The bottom of the bag features a supple brown leather base to protect from wear and tear. It features an interior leather patch pocket, a zip pocket, a cell phone holder, a key holder, natural colored lining and a detachable leather flower ornament that adds a dash of whimsy. It measures 14” x 22 ½” x 5” and is available in Black, Brown, and Red. It retails for $275.
I have a weakness for bags and this one made my knees buckle.
I received it a few days before I was invited to go on a private cruise of Huntington Harbor with an overnight stay in the yacht on the dock. Needless to say, it went with me. I needed to bring a sweater, change of clothing, and toiletries. Southern California has been warming up but it cools down at night, especially along the coast. The Vickie bag could not have arrived at a better time. This oversized hobo was just what I needed for this weekend getaway. Everything I needed to bring including my wallet, phone, keys – they all fit inside and with the built-in key and phone holders, it made them easy to find. I didn’t have to dig down to the bottom to locate them. These seemingly trivial details are in fact quite practical and illustrate the meticulous features incorporated into the design of the bag.
After getting home from my weekend excursion and unpacking, I planned to get ready for the week by transferring all my daily essentials to my everyday bag. I thought the hobo was a bit large for my everyday use. But I got plenty of compliments from it from fellow yacht cruisers over the weekend, so I thought I’d give a try. It worked out real well because I got even more compliments toting it about during the week! How wonderful it is to have one bag that can go from work, to weekend errands, to overnight getaway.
Besides its versatility, the bag is beautifully made and a fabulous blend of function and fashion. It has an air of casual sophistication, a cool elegance, a carefree style. It is the perfect bag for the laid-back days of summer, for the busy fashionista who’s always on the go. Wear it with an ultra trendy shortalls like this zip front from Da Nang and get ready to work hard and play hard this summer, you go girl!
