Michele Crawford has always loved fashion. Tired of the corporate world and endowed with creativity and a great deal of fondness for designer purses, she quit her job and started a new adventure designing her own line. After plenty of hard work and research, Art & Maggie was born.
Her line was named after her grandparents whom she was very close to, as a manner of remembering them and to commemorate how special they were to her.
Art & Maggie bags are woven by hand and are made from all natural fibers such as buntal and corn husk. Their purse philosophy consists of three F’s – Fun, Funky, and Fabulous! If there’s a fourth F, it’s that their purses are also functional.
We received the Cinnamon Twist Clutch purse from them. It retails for $39 and is also available in Grapefruit Splash and Golden Harvest. It is made from buntal and cocunut husks with the trim and removable wrist strap made from synthetic leather. It is lined with fabric, it has an interior zip pocket and it measures 10″ x 4″ x 1 ½”.
If Art & Maggie has 3 F’s, I have 3 C’s to describe their clutch purse – Cute, Cool, and Chic. The material is so unique. Small strips of glossy husk in four colors, natural, black, cinnamon, and orange, are weaved together in an irregular pattern. It has such a tropical feel and is very eye-catching.
Functionally, the hardness of the husk makes for a rigid frame and structure, which allows the purse to retain its shape no matter what you stuff inside it. It’s also remarkably durable. I’ve tossed it about and banged it around, and it still looks the same as the day I received it.
I love to use it on the weekends or anytime my shoulders need a rest. It’s roomy enough to hold my daily necessities – blackberry, keys, sunglasses, credit card, and ID.
I wore it recently to the Long Beach Grand Prix and it was the perfect accessory. I wanted to carry a light purse and one that I will not easily misplace. Bulls eye on both counts.
Visually, the purse is simply lovely and delightfully exotic. I’ve received so many compliments on it and already has someone lined up to borrow it. For a cool, ‘just came back from the Island’ look, wear it with this Eyelet Sundress by BCBG Max Azria. With its affordable price, you can manage to get not just one, not two, but all three colors!
